लकड़ी से बने होने पर मंटप को आदर्श माना जाता है। वास्तु शास्त्र के अनुसार लकड़ी से बना मंदिर शुभ होता है और अधिक धार्मिक माना जाता है। होम मंडप के लिए सागौन की लकड़ी को शुभ माना जाता है।
